Legendary highlife musician and record producer, Kwadwo Akwaboah Senior, has disclosed that his late father nurtured his career growing up as a young musician.
According to him, his father, Kwabena Akwaboah, who was a revered highlife musician, teacher and mentor to many of Ghana’s great musicians thoroughly edited and arranged the content of his songs before he finally releases it.
“After writing the songs, I give it to him for rectification. You know as young people we wanted to use certain words but he’d object it, cancel it then write lyrics for me. “Sing it this way, that way, ” the veteran musician told Agyemang Prempeh on the Legends on TV XYZ.
Kwadwo Akwaboah Senior has six albums to his credit. Most of his songs topped-charts and are household songs in Ghana.
The ‘Awere kyekyere’ hit singer indicated that his father made sure he [Akwaboah Senior] wrote good contents for his songs before he releases it.
“Before I release an album my father knew all the songs on it. If the keyboard doesn’t sound a certain way he likes, he’d tell me how to use play even though he’s not a keyboardist”
He told Agyemang Prempeh that his father was his “mentor” adding that he reprimanded him whenever he went wayward.
Known to have worked with great musicians including the likes of Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Nana Ampadu, Nicholas Omane Acheampong and many others, intimated that he comes from a family of great talents.
