Multiple award-winning rapper Okyeame Kwame

Okyeame Kwame has made numerous television appearances since 1997 as a member of defunct Hiplife group Akyeame.

But the ‘Faithful’ rapper says throughout the 23-year journey, his mother, Alice Nsiah Bota, always feels astonished when she sees him on the television screens.

The Rap Dacta told Legends host Agyemang Prempeh on TV XYZ on Sunday, 13 September 2020 that, “When I was a child I didn’t like talking, I was traumatized, I wasn’t academically good too. So I was always timid. I recall my dad often laid hands on me. People wondered how an accountant’s son say ‘NMOP’.

“I was calm, I stayed away from fights, I disliked trouble, confrontation to the point I was almost timid. So, if my mom sees me on TV like this or displaying in my music videos she’s appalled,” Okyeame Kwame added.

According to the multiple award-winning rapper, born Kwame Nsiah-Apau, plying his trade as a musician is contrary to what his family expected of him.

“It is very different from who my mother expected me to be. Whilst as a child I was a talented poet so they knew I would grow up to do something fascinating because I was saying ‘big words’ the few times I talk. They ensivaged I’d do something exciting but they never thought I’d ever stand in front of mammoth crowd” he disclosed on the programme monitored by myxyzonline.com.

He concluded that, “I wasn’t that child who was not intelligent or outspoken.”
