The “super-incompetence” of president Nana Akufo-Addo needs an ‘Obinim sticker’ to make him perform up to expectation, former President John Mahama has mockingly declared.
While addressing members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West regional capital, Wa on Saturday, April 7 2018, Mr. Mahama said the party members need to bury their indifferences and work together to emerge victorious in the 2020 elections regardless the ‘incompetence’ of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I have been watching social media lately, and there’s something that has come, and I think it cures everything. It’s the Obinim sticker, the President and his government need an Obinim sticker. If it really works, then I think they need the sticker,” he said.
The ‘Obinim sticker’ challenge has been trending on Ghana’s social media space due to its purported excessive powers that can turn almost impossible situations into possibilities. The Ghanaian preacher, Daniel Obinim is reported to have said the ‘Obinim Sticker’ when bought by his followers can heal them of many ailments and can bring them fortunes.
Aside recommending the Obinim Sticker to his opponent who defeated him in the 2016 elections, Mr Mahama pleaded with his party members to ride on the shortfalls of the ruling government and work for the party’s victory in the next elections.
“You do not win an election on the weakness of your opponent. You win an election because the electorate have confidence in you. And so even though NPP is proving super incompetent, we cannot sit and relax and say because they are super incompetent we are going to win the next election. So we are going to work hard to win,” Mr Mahama noted while advising the crowd to rally behind the NDC’s unity campaign and work towards victory in 2020.
“People are feeling more hardship than ever today [but] I am saying that we cannot depend on their incompetence, we need to work hard to gain the support of the electorate,” Mr. Mahama said arguing that the NPP has failed to live up to its mandate.
He added: “People said any idiot can borrow and that there is money in Ghana and that we can develop Ghana without borrowing but in one year and three months we have borrowed close to 30 billion Ghana cedis.”
To this end, Mr Mahama urged the NDC supporters after their ‘Unity walk’ to support the party in all ways to enable them recapture power to come and manage Ghana well.
