Sprinter Driver Shot Dead As Passenger Survives Deadly Robbery Attack At Nyinahin


A Sprinter driver has been shot dead as rampant highway robberies in the Ashanti Regional town of Nyinahin has left motorists restless.

43-year-old Francis Dodzi, the driver of the bus with registration number AW 7367-13 was killed Monday dawn after he encountered the robbers on the Nyinahin-Akorabourkrom stretch.

A passenger Yaw Boadu, a native of Sefwi-Boako who survived with gunshot wounds in his left arm told Power FM’s Jonathan Ofori that the five gun-wielding masked men made away with a bag load of GHC4,200 and two mobile phones.

The injured passenger who was receiving treatment at a nearby health facility indicated that the lifeless body of the deceased had been conveyed and deposited at the Nyinahin Community Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Family of the deceased, he added were yet to be contacted by the police over the development.

Sources at the Ashanti Regional Police Command disclosed to Power News that efforts are being made to arrest the suspects.

Ten rounds of spent ammunition have also been retrieved as exhibits as part of police investigations.

Robbers terrorize motorists, residents at Ejura

This latest attack rounds off two separate attacks in four days in some parts of the country.

Four suspected armed robbers engaged police in a fierce gun battle on the Ejura-Mampong Highway in broad daylight last Friday.

The armed men had blocked a section of the road at Ejura-Aframso scarps terrorizing motorists on the stretch.

The robbers reportedly opened fire at police officers who had proceeded to the scene to rescue the unsuspecting traders as they fled into the bush.

No arrest has since been made.

Four cops shot

In another development, some suspected armed robbers reportedly shot four police officers at Zamarmra line in Korle Bu.

Gbedema Rudorf, Gbemu Thompson, Charles Dankwah, Nyamekye (first name withheld) and Ebenezer Danso were attacked at approximately 8:30PM.

One officer was said to be in critical condition. A 24-year-old man and an eldery woman have also been injured. All victims are currently being treated at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to reports, the officers arrived on scene to arrest the suspect for another offense, but he retaliated and sprayed bullets at the officers. The reason for the initial arrest is unknown. The suspect’s name has been withheld.

Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Mensah in an interview said a search has been mounted to arrest the suspects.
