Majority of the residents in the Greater Accra Region are unhappy about malfunctioning street bulbs in the region.
They believe neighborhood theft cases could be reduced if authorities hasten processes to fix the challenge on their roads.
90% of Power 97.9 FM listeners who called to talk about challenges confronting their communities on Wednesday, March 14,2018, lamented on either the lack of street lights or malfunctioning ones on their way back home from work.
One Elliot told Agyemang Prempeh none of the street lights from Dansoman Roundabout, Liberty Park to Last Stop have been working.
“It is very sad that it has helped increase neighbourhood crime and nobody is attending to the problem,” he lamented.
Kobby, who called from Anyaa bemoaned that there were non-functioning street lights from Awoshie Vine yard at Ablekuma to Last Stop.
Lady, who called from Adenta said the absence of street lights on the Ridge -Ayimensa road, adding that “because of that cars run over pedestrians at night.”
On his part, Gabriel Acquah, a resident of Community 18, said the 18 Junction on the Spintex Road to the Tema motorway has no working street lights, a situation he said gave thieves the opportunity to snatch phones from pedestrians at night.
The story of a taxi driver who called from Teshie was not different from the other callers.
To him, the road leading to Manet from the Teshie Police Station was not only bad in shape but without street lights too.
From the callers, many of Accra’s roads are not safe to use at nights since road users can be attacked.
All the roads that were mentioned are not far from the Central Business District of Accra, signifying that more than 50 per cent of roads in the national capital have street lights as a mere decoration in the day and useless at nights.
