Gospel musicians are unappreciative of my works, talent – Yaw Sarpong

Yaw Sarpong says his colleague gospel musicians do not appreciate his works publicly.

The singer, who has over four decades of experience in the Ghanaian gospel music fraternity said, he has never seen any gospel musician publicly praising his works and talent.

“OJ, Nacee, and all of them if I’m not being pride I would say they all met me in the gospel industry. Long time. But I have not seen anyone praising my songs that I’m the best singer or my songs are nice,” disappointed Yaw Sarpong said on TV XYZ’s Legends show on Sunday, July 19.

“They respect me when they meet me but publicly they do not say. But Sarkodie said in America during an interview like we’re granting one,” he added.

The ‘Joseph’ composer told Legends host Agyemang Prempeh famously known as Agyemang Nie that, “They asked Sarkodie now that he’s famous whose songs does he listens to at home. He said he listens to Yaw Sarpong. They probed further why he sings secular music but listens to my songs. He said his songs has build me to this stage.”

Yaw Sarpong’s comments was in reaction to a question posed at him on why he’s recruiting secular musicians for his forthcoming album.

“You’re a gospel musician. We’ve gospel musicians in this country. Why not record with OJ, Nacee, Obaapa Christy, Esther Smith, Diana Hamilton, but secular musicians?” Agyemang Nie quizzed.

According to Yaw Sarpong, God gave him the direction to collaborate with un-Christian musicians on his 26th album in order to spread the good news to the world.

“I have recorded with Sarkodie, Kofi Kinaata, Samini, etc, I’ve an ongoing recording with Stonebwoy as we speak.

By next two weeks Abrantie Amakye Dede might come for recording. I have songs with all of them,” he divulged.

Yaw Sarpong also disclosed that he will be collaborating with multiple award-winning raggae and dancehall musician Shatta Wale on his next project.

“I have plans for Shatta [Wale] to record with him. But where this emerged from if I say I will record wurh them all I might loose some [files] I planned and God willing after the release of this album I will do a song with Shatta”
