Former Black Stars Skipper Asamoah Gyan says he is delighted with the level of young talents coming up following the climax of the Baby Jet U-16 Tournament in the Ashanti Region.

Anokye Stars FC emerged winners of the Baby Jet U-16 Tournament in the Ashanti Region after beating rivals Ebony FC 7-6 on penalties on Sunday, 4 August 2019. The game which took place at the Wesley College Park saw the two sides locked in a marathon penalty shootout after a pulsating draw in regulation time.

The Baby Jet Team has been touring various parts of the country to unearth the next big stars for the country.

Gyan said the move was an opportunity to give back to society.

“For me, it is important to give back to society. I started from this level and me being up there I feel like giving back to the community that has made me who I am and also help the younger ones who are coming through the ranks. Somebody helped me to get to the level that I am today so I also want to do so for others,” he told Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.

He continued: “People who nearly gave up soccer after hearing of this competition have gone back for their boots again. You can see some of them are rusty from long levels of inactivity but clearly the quality is there and I am confident we would get there.”

The team is set to visit Koforidua, Sekondi-Takoradi and other parts of the country in the coming weeks.
