Hunger Pushing Inmates At Nsawam Prison Into Homosexuality – Ex-Convict Shares Sad Story

After unlawfully jailed by a Ghanaian police with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Corporal Zachary Mohammed, William Owusu Adjei has made some appalling revelations ongoing at the various prisons in Ghana, specifically the Nsawam prison where he spent fifteen years of his life.

Mr. Adjei was sent to the largest prison in the country on May 27, 2004 after a court presided over by Justice George Osei Darko in Koforidua ordered he is reminded for two weeks, but Corporal Zachary Mohammed due to reasons best known to him overturned judgment and took him to the prison.

The 37-year-old man describes life at the Nsawam prisons as a living hell, he disclosed that at a point in time the situation there nearly forced him to committ suicide.

Sitting down with Godfred Darkwah Jr. (Man Godee) on the ‘Heavens Train’ on Power 97.9FM show, William said hunger is pushing many inmates to practice homosexuality to earn a living.

He said money is everything at the Nsawam prison and if you don’t have a penny on you. you will be left to rot because the meals serviced in-house is not sufficient and cannot even be termed as food, explaining that it lacks the six classes of nutrients.

Junior inmates at the various prisons in Ghana usually do menial jobs for survival and as a new prisoner William was introduced to a senior inmate who needed the service of a maid to wash and cook for him.

This senior inmate would later become his sex partner and he will abuse him sexually on several occasions.

Recounting how he was wooed into homosexuality which led him to contract hematochezia, he said, “I met a man at the prisons believed to be a drug dealer, known as Boro, a friend of mine had informed me that a senior inmate needed someone to be washing and cooking for him. I accepted the offer and a meeting was scheduled between us.

Prior to the meeting, my friend mentioned to me that Boro wouldn’t only hire me to serve him at the prison, he had plans to help me. I was okay with it so we moved to see the man. We finalised everything and I started working for him. One day, he sent for me and slept with me through the anus, I didn’t want to do but I had no option”

According to him, it became a trend they engaged in for six years where they made love twice a day and each time they have the sexual intercourse, he was paid Ghs2.

He slept with me twice everyday. He paid Ghs2 for each sexual encounter, for six years. Sometimes he does not pay me and I have to feed on his food”

William noted that the act is very common in the prisons, as inmates willingly allow themselves to be abused sexually so they can get financial benefits.

Fortunately for William, he has repented from the ungodly behaviour, it happened that two weeks prior to his release from jail he became an ardent listener of Heavens Trains and he was touched by the undiluted word of God preached by Man Godee.

William Owusu Adjei was given a presidential pardon few weeks ago and he has since been battling with rectal bleeding and he’s seeking for medical treatment.
