Veteran gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong, has opened up on some ‘strange’ spiritual directions performed before he was declared fit and discharged when he got paralysed for two years.
In an interview with TV XYZ, the gospel singer intimated that his second child stood on his behalf and was taken to the cemetery in his hometown for prayers before he could figuratively come back to life.
The celebrated gospel singer disclosed that he had refused to undergo surgery at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to correct a spinal disorder.
After declining surgery, the ‘Joseph’ hit singer said, he resorted to spiritual treatment.
He narrated, “When it became critical I had to be operated but I didn’t budge, my colleague musician, Wofa Asomani visited and when he saw me still lying he recommended a church in Kumasi for me. He feels when I’m taken to the New Jerusalem Chapel (NJC) founded by Bishop Dr. John Yaw Adu I will be healed.
“The pastor took me from the hospital in an ambulance to his church. My second child, Tiwaa, and I also prayed fervently throughout that period. Bishop Adu laid hands on me and performed several spiritual directions at his church premises. Many things he did I didn’t understand but he did them all.
“They took my child to a cemetery, my second born Kwame to the cemetery for prayers. My hometown’s cemetery not someone’s cemetery. I didn’t understand but he said he was searching for my soul. I didn’t want my son to be used as point of contact, I had wanted to call someone else but the pastor insisted.”
Narrating what transpired when his son together with the pastor and some other people went to the cemetery, he said, “when I asked my son what happened at the cemetery he said all they did was they made him turn his back to face the bush — there was a road which divides the cemetery — they took him to one side and they were at the other side. They offered prayers but instructed him not to turn to their direction till they are done.”
Yaw Sarpong, however, said he believed all the strange spiritual directions because it was grounded by biblical truth.
The ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen’ composer told Agyemang Prempeh on Legends that a few months after the cemetery prayers he recovered.
“In about four or three months after the prayers at the cemetery I began walking for the first time after being bedridden. The pastor carried out other spiritual directions including making my children bath on all the major roads that leads to Kumasi from Accra, Cape Coast, etc, “
