The largest opposition party, NDC will address a news conference today 8th May 2019 following the arrest of officials of the National Identification Authority secretly registering Ghanaians in the night, at a house in Awudome near Kaneshie here in Accra.
NDC supporters upon a tip off busted them red handed and marched them to the Kaneshie Police station with the BDV machines and some of the already printed GHANA CARDS.
Pictures of the criminal activity was shared widely on social media amidst calls on the general public who could afford to rush to the scene following fears, the Police might be forced to cover-up by unseen hands.
The news which has since gone viral, includes pictures of the NDC National Organizer, Joshua Akamba displaying the exhibits at the Police when he also rushed to the scene.
According to the NIA, the ongoing mass registration in the Greater Accra Region begins from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
On Monday, XYZ News picked information that a similar secrete registration for the card was ongoing at Akotosu Nos. 2 Primary School in the Ga West district after 5pm, but that cannot be independently confirmed
Yesterday’s arrest of those involved is now fuelling suspicions that government and the NPP intend to disenfranchise Ghanaians by using the Ghana Card as requirement to acquire a new voter ID for the 2020 elections
