Officials of the National Identification Authority, NIA have been arrested for secretly registering people at a house in Awudome, outside the normal hours. Pictures of BV machines, registration forms and some ID cards issued were shared widely on facebook and whatsup platforms late after 8pm after the arrest.
The suspects according to XYZ News were rounded up at their secret location by NDC supporters upon a tip-off. News was rife that the busted NIA officials were registering NPP supporters in the Okai-kwei South constituency raising suspicions about the motive and if it may have anything to do with the 2020 elections.
National organizer of the NDC, Joshua Hamidu Akamba was among scores who rushed to the Kaneshie Police station late into the night to see the evidence.
According to the NIA the ongoing registration in Accra West begins from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
