Ghana’s Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, is receiving treatment from home after testing positive for COVID-19.
His test result was communicated to him Tuesday morning, according Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who said the senior minister is doing well.
“Senior Minister Osafo-Maafo has been informed that his sample taken has returned positive for COVID-19,” Oppong Nkrumah said.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo went into isolation on Saturday, July 4, 2020 upon doctors’ advice shortly after one of his close associates tested positive for the deadly virus.
However, the President’s test result is negative and he is working from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah noted that President Akufo-Addo is working and getting in touch with his appointees via the telephone.
Ghana’s COVID-19 case count is nearing 22,000 with recoveries shooting to 16,070. The death toll has risen to 129.
