Radio and television mogul, Mikki Osei Berko, says senior journalist with Despite Media Group’s owned Peace FM, Kwame Sefa Kayi mentored him as a broadcaster.
Although he was trained by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, the media practitioner with about twenty-five years of experience in the Ghanaian media space said, Sefa Kayi was instrumental in the early stages of his broadcasting career.
Mikki, who’s a force to reckon with in the Ghanaian media and movie fraternity has had stint with Radio Gold, Happy FM, Kessben FM, Adom FM, etc,.
In an interview with Agyemang Prempeh on the Legends programme on TV XYZ on Sunday, 20 September 2020, he eulogised the ‘Kokrokoo’ host fondly called Chairman General for his selfless service towards the growth of his career.
“Kwame Sefa Kayi hosted ‘Reggae Reasons’ and ‘Kanawu’ on Tuesdays. And Kwaku Boafo Agyeman was the morning show host. Yvonne Andoh, Doreen Andoh’s elder sister. BB Menson, The Virus and eventually Benji Kumassah. These were serious radio presenters. They trained me a lot especially Sefa Kayi,” famously called Master Richard recounted.
He further said the 2016 Journalist of the Year went all out to see him succeed at the now defunct Laterbiokorshie-based radio station.
“Kwame Sefa Kayi picked me up as a kid brother. Whenever Kwame goes he takes me along. And he built a lot of confidence in me. Sometimes, people think Kwame is my mate [co-equal] no no Kwame is not my mate.”
He added that, “Age-wise he’s older than me and professionally, he’s [also] my senior.”
Not only that, according to him, the Chairman General, “kept encouraging me. Kwame kept telling me this, ‘we do this that, we do that this’. Kwame takes me out for a lunch and he talked to me about how to develop myself as a radio presenter. So, Kwame did a lot.”
