Astute football administrator and chairman of Neoplan Stars, Jonathan Abbey Pobee is advising the Ghana Football Association to bring to a halt, all appointments that the association intend doing in the wake of the Novel pandemic, Covid-19 which has claimed thousands of lives globally.
The Ghana Football Association like many other Football Associations around the World suspended all football activities following directives from His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to suspend all social gathering as a preventive measure to control the spread of the Coronavirus a month ago.
In his argument, the former National U-20 management committee member, said that his advise is to safeguard the Association’s financial purse from leaking while no activity is ongoing but added that the FA can still continue with their search for new Technical Director and Referees Manager to fill vacuums created by Mr Francis Oti Akenteng, whose contract was not renewed and the late L.O Laryea.
He caution the FA to do these without any appointment letters that will automatically grant the success candidates salary.
“My suggestion to the GFA is to stop all appointments in view of the Covid-19 Pandemic to save the Association’s financial resources from collapsing,” the 70-year-old said .
“Ghana can not afford to be paying around $25,000 in salaries to the Black Stars Coach while the mother-body of African football, CAF, has suspended its activities. ”
“In conclusion, the FA should rather save those monies for the Clubs and Players who are always disadvantaged in issues such as this. However, the FA can go ahead with their interview for a Technical Director and referees manager but without an appointment.” which automatically grant the success candidates salaries.
The office of the Technical Director became vacant following the GFA’s unable to renew Francis Oti Akenteng contract who held the post for more than a decade.
