Targeted Closure Of Fm Stations; Foreign Embassies Petitioned

Free Media Vanguards, a coalition of practicing journalists, students and media organizations fighting for media rights, free expression and independent media, in Ghana have petitioned US and Royal Netherlands embassies, UNDP and the International Federation for Protection of Journalists about the targeted closure of Radio Gold, Radio XYZ and other FM stations.

They are asking the diplomatic community to activate all relevant protocols within their mandate to help protect gains made in Ghana’s democratic process so far.

A public forum to pile more pressure on government takes place at the Press Center today. Speakers include, Veteran Journalist, Kwesi Pratt, Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu, former Gender Minister and Human Right Activist, Nana Oye Lithur.

Similar concerns have been raised by Ghana Journalists Association, Media Foundation for West Africa and other human rights lawyers who have condemned National Communications Authority, NCA decision, especially after concerns raised about the killing of Ahmed Suale, and threats on the lives of Manasseh Azure Awuni and Edward Adeti.
