The White House has criticized China after it imposed retaliatory tariffs against the US on a range of goods including pork and wine.

Beijing announced on Monday the introduction of duties of up to 25 percent on 128 American imports.

China said the move was intended to safeguard its interests and balance losses caused by the new tariffs announced by President Trump last week.

In a statement issued by the White House concerning the tariffs, it accused Beijing of distorting global markets.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters says China’s subsidization and continued overcapacity is the root cause of the steel crises.
